Am I the only one who sees these competing with each other?

Vs.

The main element I'm looking at is the low weight and how exposed you are to the elements and immersed in the driving the experience.

Do you happen to have a price for the top one?

*edit*

Nevermind, It's 20k. Ehhh, I'd take the miata everytime. So much more versatility.

I feel that they're in a different class, Since the Slingshot is an open-air vehicle and the Miata can be closed with a hardtop.

I don't know. If Polaris somehow managed to build in a trunk somewhere, they're pretty much equal. I guess that assumes you NEED a top. :)

Maybe against spec Miatas assuming a series of these things starts up. As DDs? no way. Ain't no one driving a slingshot on the daily slog in the snow/rain.

Most new Miata owners buy it for the look, not the performance. It's an unassuming small coupe that looks fashionable and proportioned. There are a subset that are looking for driving feel and connection to the road, but they're also doing that because the Miata is a safe choice for that that offers good reliability and safety on top of its driving feel.

The average person who buys a new Miata would be too terrified to get anything like a KTM (I assume that's a KTM? Can't quite tell). Not only does it completely ruin the simple, fashionable look that they're going for, but it also has this '

Regular Car Reviews did it best. The Miata is the car that the clean-shaven bright-eyed witty early-20something boy who likes 19th-century british literature, owns a fedora (and can pull it off) and artsy T-shirts buys to pick up a girl. It's approachable, it's friendly, and it cultivates an image of kindness without weakness .

The KTM is aggression without compromise . It's what an Investment Banker buys in his spare time because he's burned out on adrenaline, or because he doesn't have time for a relationship that can't be mechanically maintained because of his work.

I agree they are different classes but someone just looking for something fun on the weekends both could fulfill those needs.

It's the new Slingshot from Polaris that was unveiled this morning.

Lots of people don't drive Miatas in the snow/rain. Myself, I drive mine in the rain with the roof down so I would drive either in the rain.

I am not saying one would entirely take over the other's market there are a percentage of people who would cross shop both of them. If you want a Miata primarily as a fun weekend car for the track and the back road the Slingshot could be had 500 lbs light and $5,000 cheaper. For most people as a daily driver that doesn't sound like a fair trade but the guy just hooning on the weekend that could be a great deal. Plus you only have to buy 3 tires instead of 4.

I just don't think a lot of people buy Miatas and drive them as a track car. Even as a fun weekend car, it's being driven on the street.
